The use of text to speech on Chromebooks is not resolved. The AIR team and Google support recognize the Google voice packs are not connecting with the Secure Browser required for testing. The AIR team has been working with a top Google Engineer and we are assured this matter is their top priority.
We understand some districts may be holding off on testing until this issue is resolved, but unfortunately we can’t determine when a solution will be identified so we encourage you not to delay testing if you have other devices on which you can test students requiring text to speech. We have heard that uninstalling and reinstalling the secure browser is an effective workaround for other states. While this is not an ideal solution, we want to make you aware of this option.
